What Things Should I Do First With My New Computer?

January 27, 2015 0 Comments

The first things you should do with your new computer after unboxing & plugging it in:

  • Connect to the internet
  • Run “Windows Updates” – You need to run these updates over & over until no more updates are available.  This may take a long time, but will make sure you have all the Microsoft Windows security patches!  These monthly Microsoft Windows Updates should then automatically install about the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
  • Make sure you have virus detection software & run updates over & over until no more updates are available!  Most new computers come with some antivirus program pre-installed with at least 30 days free protection.  Make sure you calendar when this free protection will expire!

After doing the above, you will be better protected to surf the internet.  I had a customer who started downloading programs before doing these things, got infected & we had to reset their computer to factory setup!
