Can Computer Pieces & Parts Make A Working Computer?

January 28, 2015 0 Comments

I had a customer with a conference deadline & two crashed computers & one sick new computer needing to be up & running ASAP !

The three computers were:
1 – Older desktop computer with dead harddrive – clicking sound
2 – Newer desktop coputer – virus infected & not running properly
3 – Laptop with cracked screen & not running

Newer desktop was Windows 7 – new computer in box, but it was 1 1/2 years old.  It had gotten infected as they were trying to setup it up.  Cleaned viruses, updated Windows 7 with all updates.

Laptop was Windows 8.1 with programs & data that they wanted.  I was able to install the Wndows 8.1 harddrive in the newer desktop & after changing some hardware bios settings & updating drivers, the customer is up & running with Windows 8.1 & all their programs & data intact!  The Windows 7 harddrive is disconnected, but ready to use if needed – no programs & no data on it

Reminder to run Windows Updates on a new computer until Microsoft tells you there are no more updates to run.  This will save you time & frustration in the long run!
