What to do when your inkjet printer suddenly stops printing?

What to do when your inkjet printer suddenly stops printing?

Technical Summary:

  • Making a copy on my multi-function inkjet printer & the copy was blank!
  • Copy still blank after replacing the black ink cartridge
  • Copy still blank after printer level 1 & level 2 printhead cleaning
  • Copy still blank after pulling power plug on printer for an hour
  • Copy still blank after resetting multi-function printer to defaults
  • Removed & reset all ink cartridges
  • Copy still blank after another printer level 1 & level 2 printhead cleaning
  • Multi-function printer is 5 or 6 years old, so did it just die?

Solution process:

  • Searching he internet ran across some tips
  • Ready to replace printer if needed, but not first choice
  • Followed a tip to soak/flush printhead after removing from printer
  • Allowed ample time for air drying printhead – roatating to various positions for complete draining & drying
  • Reinserted printhead & cartridges into printer & powered down printer
  • Powered up & waited for printer to startup & responded to prompts to replace cartridges – not replacing cartridges
  • Printer took longer to startup as it was priming the ink nozels
  • Printer auto ran a cartridge alignment
  • Ran a printer status report – SUCCESS! Printing on page!
These or similar steps should be run at your own risk!

This post partially brought to you by a “snow day” while I was waiting for a tow truck after our van getting stuck yesterday in our subdivision!
