What To Do If You Think You Have A Virus !

December 8, 2014 0 Comments
DON’T:
1 – Randomly search for virus cleaning programs on the web
2 – Believe pop-ups telling you your computer is infected –
unless you know it is from a program you had already installed
3 – Believe phone calls from Microsoft telling you you’re infected
4 – Install a 2nd or 3rd virus cleaning program –
this will slow down your computer –
you only need one good active virus cleaning program –
also the two programs may nullify effective virus detection
5 – Don’t run programs your friends recommend unless you
understand what they actually do
DO:
1 – Check for recently installed programs
and remove the ones you don’t recognize
2 – Update your existing virus cleaning program definitions
3 – Boot into Windows Safe Mode & run a full virus scan –
if you are infected, consider running a 2nd full scan
to verify you are now virus/spyware free
4 – Remember that infected programs may have changed
browser home pages or search engines –
avoid re-infection by resetting your browser defaults
5 – If you need further help,
DO call a professional sooner rather than later
