If you share internet or printers, you may already have a network & could also share documents if you wanted.
You might need a network if you want to share printers & documents. A network could also let you backup documents/data to another computer or maybe centralize your documents/data on one computer.
Networks can be wireless or wired. Networks do not have to have a dedicated server for home or small businesses.
